Marseille-based companies, Bourbon Offshore and Opsealog, have successfully completed a six-month project using data-driven software to improve the operating efficiency of 25 offshore support vessels. Now, the software will be installed on all of Bourbon’s 104 offshore vessels.

Real-time fleet monitoring and enhanced digitalisation of the vessels’ reporting systems enabled Opsealog to identify potential improvements in daily operations which resulted in average monthly savings in carbon dioxide emissions of 45-50 tonnes per vessel. The software company will now install its systems on board Bourbon’s fleet of platform supply vessels and anchor handling tug supply ships in a multi-year agreement. The vessels operate in regions including West Africa, Asia and the Gulf of Mexico.

The setup will involve centralised fleet monitoring with real-time vessel tracking and reporting. The data will be integrated into Opsealog’s Marinsights platform to identify areas of operation in which fuel consumption and associated emissions could be reduced.

Bourbon’s strategy to optimise its fleet operations comes at a key moment. Operators of offshore vessels will soon meet requirements to comply with regulations that already apply to many merchant vessels. They include the EU Emissions Trading System and monitoring, reporting and verification regulations.

Opsealog Account Manager, Hugo Prigent, commented: This partnership is a testament to the power of digitalisation in driving operational efficiency and environmental responsibility. Our pilot showed how data can not only paint an accurate picture of each vessel’s fuel consumption and carbon emissions, but also unlock tangible actions to immediately improve their performance. Building on this success, we are proud to expand our partnership across Bourbon Marine & Logistics’ entire fleet and support their sustainability and performance ambitions.”
