First of two SOVs launched from Ulstein Verft

The first offshore wind service vessel built at Ulstein Verft was recently delivered

Both vessels are based on the Ulstein SX175 design and have the hull features X-Bow and X-Stern to improve their sea characteristics when positioned alongside wind turbines during the transfer of service technicians via a heave-compensated gangway. They have accommodation for 60 persons in single cabins, of which 40 are for technicians.
The final arrangements and equipment for the vessels were specified and developed in cooperation with WINDEA Offshore GmbH & Co KG, which is Bernhard Schulte Offshore’s affiliate for offshore wind projects.
Although the Ulstein Group has previously delivered ship designs for the renewable energy segment, the vessels for Bernhard Schulte Offshore are the first offshore wind service vessels to be constructed at Ulstein Verft. The ship design and shipbuilding contract for the two SOVs was signed in 2015.

The first of two service operation vessels (SOVs) ordered by Hamburg-based Bernhard Schulte Offshore – and the first with the newly developed X-Stern™ hull line design – has been launched from the Ulstein Verft shipyard in Norway. It will work at the Gemini offshore wind park in the Netherlands for the German engineering giant Siemens.
