New autopilot launched with added functionality
The PilotStar NX succeeds the company’s PilotStar D and incorporates new functionality and features including ethernet communication and bridge alert management according to the latest standards. This means that the new autopilot can easily be integrated into existing bridge systems.
The unit has a large 7-inch thin film transistor (TFT) touch display which provides graphical user support with heading and rudder plot, as well as track data for easy adjustment of the autopilot parameters for optimal steering performance and efficient fuel consumpton. Other functions include a trim mode and a preset heading capability for specialised workboat operations. Tillers and handwheels can easily be connected to create compact steering gear control systems.
"During several months of sea trials aboard a search and rescue cruiser in the Baltic Sea, we were able to validate the new autopilot, its reliability and performance,“ said Olav Denker, product manager at Raytheon Anschütz. "PilotStar NX is the result of a careful design process, implementing the newest technologies and vast experiences from the field.“
Raytheon Anschütz will continue to support its earlier PilotStar D autopilot for another ten years, the company said, so that existing installations continue to represent a secure investment for customers.
