Dockstavarvet delivers first of two pilot boats
Design and construction of the P/V Dithmarschen has involved collaboration between the owners, SVA Tec in Potsdam, the shipyard and FKAB as a subcontractor for class drawings. Fully loaded, the vessel has a top speed of 14 knots.
The steel hull, designed with hard chines, a full-length skeg, bulb stem and square transom, was built by Riga Shipyard and the aluminium deckhouses by Aluspec. The propulsion system was supplied as a package from Pon Sweden and comprises a Caterpillar C32 engine rated 895 kW at 1800 rpm, a Reintjes geabox and a Caterpillar controllable pitch propeller. Pon also supplied the control and alarm systems and two Caterpillar C4.4 / 38-kW diesel generators.
The Dithmarschen is the first vessel to be build in Sweden according to the harmonised EU Rules for Inland Navigation and is classed by the Swedish Transport Board through DNV GL for Zone 2. After transfer to Germany under Swedish flag the vessel went through an additional control by Zentrale Schiffsuntersuchungkommission for the extended operational area ‘Zone 2 See’. A second pilot boat is due for delivery in May 2018 and together, the pair will replace three older units.
