EST-Floattech wins ten-ship battery contract
Netherlands-headquartered EST-Floattech has won a contract from Rolls-Royce Power Systems to supply Green Orca 1050 battery modules for nine fast ferries to be built at Armon Shipyard in Spain, and a 76m-long yacht ordered at Turkey’s Turquoise Yachts.
The deal forms part of a long-term framework agreement signed recently between the battery firm’s German office and Rolls-Royce Power Systems.
The batteries will provide a sailing speed of eight knots and completely emissions-free operation during port calls, the company said in a statement.
EST-Floattech will supply 33 lithium polymer Green Orca 1050 battery modules with a total capacity of 2,118.5 kWh for the nine ferries, which are due for delivery between April 2023 and April 2024. The Liberty Lines vessels will operate on routes between Sicily and Croatia, as well as serving other small Italian island destinations.
Battery modules with a total power output of 1,512.6 kWh will be commissioned for the yacht during 2023. The vessel is due to be commissioned in 2025.
Walter van der Pennen, chief commercial officer at EST-Floattech, said: “The framework agreement is a milestone achievement for EST-Floattech Hamburg. Rolls-Royce Power Systems and EST-Floattech will work well together. Both companies are setting milestones on the road to climate-neutral shipping with the approved Series 2000 and Series 4000 mtu marine diesel engines, respectively the approved and DNV-certified Green Orca 1050 batteries.”
