Rolls-Royce to equip two Mystic Cruises’ expedition ships

The first of the Mystic Cruise vessels, the 200-passenger 9,300gt World Explorer, is close to completion at the West Sea yard and will start cruising for Ferreira’s Nicko Cruises and Quark Expeditions brands later this year. However, the Rolls-Royce equipment package is to be installed on similarly-sized ships number two and three which will each have two Bergen C25:33L8P main engines and a Bergen C25:33L6P auxiliary dual generator. These will be connected to a low voltage AFE "SAVeCUBE" power electric system.
"To reduce our impact, we worked with Rolls-Royce to integrate an ultra-sophisticated hybrid propulsion system that dramatically reduces fuel consumption and CO2 emissions," Ferreira said, "as well as a dynamic positioning system that allows us to avoid using anchors, thereby protecting the marine environment.”

Two of the three expedition cruise ships under construction at Portugal’s WestSea Viana Shipyard for Mystic Cruises, a company owned by Portuguese entrepreneur Mário Ferreiara, are to have hybrid propulsion installations, automation control systems, a Promas propulsion and manoeuvring set-up and controllable pitch propellers with flaps supplied by Rolls-Royce Commercial Marine. The value of the contract is GBP 14 million.
