Spanish ferry company to undertake LNG conversions
Baleària will significantly invest in the conversion of five ferries to LNG operation
The company, which runs ferry services between Spain and the Balearic Islands, Algeria, Morocco, Grand Bahama and Florida, will convert the Naples, Abel Matutes, Sicily, Bahama Mama and Martin i Soler over the next two years. It estimates that converting the ferries to LNG operation will save 45,000 tonnes of CO2 and 4,400 tonnes of NOx.
Baleària managers are also studying two other LNG projects and the company has two new vessels under construction at Visentini Shipyard in Italy. The first of these is due for delivery next February. Baleària’s president, Adolfo Utor, has said that the company plans to have nine vessels operating on LNG within the next three years.
