Chinese yards won orders including bulk carriers, a liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) carrier and inland waterways vessels. Russia revealed plans for a semi-submersible heavy transport vessel. In the naval sector, the United Kingdom continues moves to open the bidding for new naval supply vessels to non-British yards. Russia plans a corvette order. Large orders for U.S. Naval modernisation continue to be placed with American yards. South Korean yards won most world merchant shipbuilding orders in July but the overall volume of contracts was depressed.
