Chinese yards again dominated merchant shipbuilding orders and negotiations this week. Talks were reported about a large VLCC order while contracts were placed in China for vessels including bulk carriers and tankers. A leading European bulk carrier operator said it plans a major offshore wind farm vessel newbuilding worth over $200 million as a move away from dry bulk shipping. The naval sector was active, with several yards competing to build a coastal naval vessel for Malaysia. Brazil announced plans for its naval shipbuilding while new naval vessels are also being developed in the United States.
