Low prices available from yards helped generate some major newbuilding orders this week with talks about other deals reported. Greek interests are said to be behind a US$359 million order for tankers placed in South Korea. Chinese shipyards are in talks about building a large series of dual-fuelled bulk carriers initially likely to be worth about US$260 million. Other orders for Chinese yards this week included more bulk carriers and a ferry. Japan also won bulk carrier orders. A project to build a ferry for a British operator moved into the design stage. In the naval sector, a U.S. order worth US$222 million to build four fast patrol vessels was placed.
