Asian yards emerged from their holiday period this week with some large orders. South Korea won a billion-dollar order for liquefied natural gas (LNG) carriers. Chinese orders included bulk carriers and large offshore fish farming vessels. Zero-emission bunker tankers were ordered in Japan. A large offshore renewable energy order was placed in Singapore. The naval sector was active with an aircraft carrier plan moving forward in South Korea. Britain and Ukraine made progress with a large patrol vessel deal. British shipyards would be favoured for state shipbuilding contracts under Brexit plans being considered by the Government.
