Busy times for Palumbo Malta Shipyard

One of the Mediterranean’s leading ship repairers is Valletta-based Palumbo Malta Shipyard, one of the group of yards owned and operated by Italy’s Palumbo Group. Undergoing repair at this yard on June 10th were the following vessels:

  • Ramform Titan – 20, 637gt 2013-built seismic research/survey vessel, owned by Norway’s Petroleum Geo Services (PGS), Oslo
  • Alaska – 163,250dwt 2006-built crude oil tanker, owned by Greece’s Tsakos Columbia Shipmanagement, Athens
  • Splendid – 39,255gt 1994-built RoPax ferry, owned by Italy’s Grandi Navi Veloci (GNV), Genoa
  • Rig Andromeda – 3,529dwt 2008-built seismic support vessel, owned by Norway’s Tanux Shipping KS and operated by Norway’s Uksnøy & Co AS, Ålesund
  • Navigator Leo – 22,819dwt 2011-built LPG tanker, managed by the UK’s Northern Marine Management
  • Marella Explorer – 76,998gt 1996-built cruise vessel, owned by the UK’s Marella Cruises, owned by Germany’s TUI Cruises
  • Wheels – 1,991gt 2008-built 76m Super Yacht. Owners not known
  • Arctic P – 2,610gt 1970-built 87m Super Yacht Exploration vessel. Owners not known. This vessel was converted from Bugsier’s ocean-going salvage tug Arctic by this shipyard in the early 1990s, when it was known as Malta Drydocks. In its current form the vessel was originally owned by the Australian TV mogul Kerry Packer and later by members of his family
