Danish subsea cable and services company NKT has completed the offshore upgrades of its state-of-the-art cable layer, NKT Victoria, making it one of the most efficient vessels of its kind currently in operation worldwide.

The modernisation work on the ship, which was built in 2017, has increased the cable load capacity, improved station keeping and expanded the installation options.

The work on the 16,171gt vessel included increasing the cable load capacity from 9,000 to 11,000 tonnes, the installation of an additional Azimuth thruster in the middle of the hull to improve positioning, a customised Elevated Horizontal Lay System (EHLS) for laying dynamic cables, and an integrated jet plough to enable the levelling and burying of underwater vessels.
