Ross Eagle, a vessel originally built as platform supply vessel (PSV) Highland Eagle by Norway’s Brattvaag Shipyard in 2003, was this year converted into a special purpose vessel with the addition of a 100-tonne A-frame and active heave-compensated winches.

The vessel has just completed its first geotechnical project following the refit, which AGR, the owner of vessel operator Ross Offshore, said came in response to a scarcity of special purpose vessels, owing to growing demand for geotechnical surveys and seabed mapping in the offshore wind industry.

The vessel is now able to perform various duties including inspection, maintenance, and repair (IMR), wellhead cutting and geotechnical coring.

“With Ross Eagle in our service portfolio, we can deliver end-to-end solutions, from initial desktop surveys to the execution of the most complex geophysical and geotechnical offshore operations,” said Jarle Vespestad, VP Marine & Survey Management at AGR, in September. “The vessel elevates our position in the market, offering customers unparalleled expertise, efficiency, and predictability.”

The vessel is set to be upgraded further with the addition of a new work-class ROV (WROV).

“The enhancements made to Ross Eagle reflect our commitment to advancing technical expertise in geotechnical services, equipping us to support a wide range of offshore and subsea projects with high-quality engineering and data,” said Jarle Vespestad, VP of Operations at AGR.
