Undergoing repair at Croatia’s leading ship repairer, Palumbo Viktor Lenac, on February 22nd was a mixture of local ferries and one US Navy vessel. The repair yard, located in the port of Rijeka, is much favoured by the US Navy for the repair of its vessels based in the Mediterranean. Vessels being repaired included:

  • Vela Luka – 2,604gt 1997-built passenger RoRo ferry, owned by state-owned Croatian ferry operator Jadrolinija. This vessel was recently acquired from Greek ferry operator Kerkyra Seaways, for whom she operated as Hermes
  • USNS Yuma (T-EPF-8) – 9,781gt 2017-built Spearhead-class expeditionary fast transport, owned by the US Navy and operated by the Military Sealift Command
  • Ilovak – 1,335gt 2006-built landing-craft type ferry, owned by Croatia’s Jadrolinija, Rijeka
  • Faros – 1,436gt 2009-built double-ender passenger RoRo ferry, owned by Croatia’s Jadrolinija, Rijeka

Meanwhile, due to arrive at this yard shortly is the RoPax ferry Oslofjord, owned by Norway’s Fjord Line. This 17,851gt 1993-built vessel has been chartered for three months this summer by Jadrolinija and will operate a new service linking Dubrovnik to Bari. The vessel has already been renamed Dalmacija.
