Swedish ship repairer Oresund DryDocks AB, based in the port of Landskrona, has secured a SEK 70 million contract to carry out the refit of the 34,924gt 2004-built cruise vessel Birka Stockholm, now owned by the newly established Gotland Alandia Cruises AB.

This new cruise line has been established jointly by two Baltic ferry companies: Viking Line and Gotlandsbolaget.

Birka Stockholm drydocked in Landskrona on February 8th and will leave the shipyard on March 20th, renamed Birka Gotland. The work scope of repairs and upgrades to the cruiser ship includes the major upgrade of the existing spa area on Deck 10 and the Sun Deck area. Meanwhile, all passenger cabins and suites will undergo refurbishment.

When in service, Birka Gotland will operate cruises from the Swedish capital, Stockholm, to Mariehamn, Visby, the High Coast, Ystad, Bornholm and Riga.
