Holland’s Damen Shipyards and Atal Solutions have partnered with others to retrofit four bulk carriers owned by BAM Shipping with fuel-saving and emission-reducing technologies.

The partners will integrate eight different proven technologies which are expected to reduce the vessel’s fuel consumption by 20% and reduce up to 99% of greenhouse gases.

The increased efficiency paves the way for these vessels, and other existing ships, to sail in compliance with recently introduced regulations, such as the Energy Efficiency Existing Ships Index (EEXI) and Carbon Intensity Indicator (CII).

Damen’s role in this project is to provide the four vessels with SOx scrubbers and a carbon capture system, a Propeller Duct for the optimisation of the propeller, low friction underwater hull coatings, DX QM technology and Damen’s Air Lubrication System (Damen Triton).

The retrofitting of the four vessels is expected to be carried out in the first quarter of 2025.
