New facilities at Drydocks World’s South Yard will boost total yard capacity by a quarter and fabrication capacity by 40%, enabling more new construction, repair, upgrades and conversions to be completed simultaneously. The 75,000m2 facility now has the largest load-out jetty in the Middle East and Africa, with scope to handle structures weighing up to 37,000 tonnes.

The yard will also commission a 5,000-tonne sheerleg floating crane, expected by 2026. The company says that the South Yard expansion will enable it to meet growing demand in the energy transition field as well as other large offshore projects. The new facility will also free up more space elsewhere in the yard for routine repairs and upgrades.

Equipped with advanced technologies including robotic profile-cutting machines, automated Computer Numerical Control (CNC) systems, and a heavy-duty rolling machine, the South Yard will now be capable of handling large conversion projects including FPSOs and FSRUs, as well as the building of topsides for offshore platforms. It will also have capacity for constructing both high-voltage alternating and direct current converter platforms for the rapidly growing offshore wind sector.

Drydocks World CEO, Captain Rado Antolovic, commented: “The South Yard represents a transformative step … it enhances our ability to execute multiple complex global projects. This expansion is more than just additional capacity. It’s a statement of our commitment to innovation, operational excellence, and the energy transition. By integrating advanced technologies and sustainable practices, we are well-positioned to support global decarbonisation goals while driving value for our clients.”
