Norway is funding another project to explore the potential of converting an LNG-powered RoRo to operate on fuel cells and hydrogen fuel. ENOVA, the Norwegian Government fund designed to support initiatives to accelerate decarbonisation, will provide funding to Iceland’s Samskip, along with partners TECO 2030 and Oslo-based Blohm Maritime, to develop plans for the conversion of Samskip’s 4,000dwt 2015-built RoRo Samskip Kvitnos. This vessel currently operates a regular service from Rotterdam along the Norwegian west coast to Hammerfest, in Northern Norway.

Blohm Maritime will support the project with naval architects, piping engineers, and structural engineers to produce the documentation needed to obtain preliminary approval for the fuel cell and hydrogen solution.
