The 2014-built 5,300dwt PSV Island Condor, owned by Ulsteinvik-based Island Offshore Management AS, is to undergo conversion into a multi-purpose offshore support vessel (MPSV) at Norway’s Myklebust Verft, based in Gursken, and will be renamed Island Ocean when the project is completed. Conversion work is planned to start in April and be completed in September this year.

The vessel has been taken on long-term charter by Norway’s Deep Ocean, headquartered in Oslo, and is being converted into a modern offshore construction support vessel. It will be equipped with a 150-tonne capacity deck crane, which will support subsea inspection, maintenance and repair (IMR) work, light construction and recycling services to the charter’s customers in the offshore renewables and oil and gas industries.

A major part of the conversion of Island Condor will be lengthening the vessel by 11m, from 97m to 108m. Meanwhile, the vessel will be fitted with dual ROV hangars, the existing superstructure extended, the existing DP system upgraded and a large battery pack installed. The PSV will also be fitted with two Schilling HDxh ROV systems, rated for a water depth of 3,000m each, sourced from Deep Ocean’s own fleet, together with the company’s own dedicated infrastructure. Deep Ocean’s long-term charter will begin when the conversion is completed in the third quarter of this year.
