Manson Construction Co recently completed a major retrofit of its cutter suction dredger, H.R. Morris, at the company’s Seattle yard. The retrofit included the removal of the dredge's main pump, A.C. wound rotor motor, and liquid rheostat, followed by the installation of cutting-edge dredge pump and drive technology.

The new system features 6,000hp A.C. permanent magnet motors and advanced variable frequency drives powering a slurry pump, selected in collaboration with Hagler Systems. These upgrades are expected to significantly enhance the dredge’s performance while cutting emissions by over 30% when operating on its onboard diesel generators.

The H.R. Morris is among a select few electric dredges capable of producing zero diesel emissions by connecting to shoreside power, supporting Manson's commitment to sustainable energy and green practices.

Following successful testing of the upgraded system in Seattle, the dredge will soon head to California. Manson Construction highlighted that the enhancements will improve operational capabilities, aligning with the company's goals of increasing efficiency and reducing its environmental impact.
