Spanish shipbuilder Navantia S.A., S.M.E. and global cruise operator Royal Caribbean Group (NYSE: RCL) have signed a renewed framework agreement, reaffirming their partnership and intention to pursue future ship modernisation and revitalisation projects.

The agreement was formalised during a signing ceremony held at Royal Caribbean Group’s Miami headquarters, attended by senior executives from both companies. The collaboration dates back to 2012, when Navantia first revitalised two of Royal Caribbean’s vessels in Cádiz. Since then, 45 ships have undergone refurbishments at the Spanish shipyard, cementing Navantia’s reputation as a key player in cruise ship repairs and upgrades.

Present at the signing were Marcos Díaz, general director of Ship Repairs at Navantia, and Anders Aasen, Senior Vice President of Global Marine Technology at Royal Caribbean Group. “We are absolutely delighted to renew our frame agreement with Royal Caribbean and look forward to strengthening the already excellent relationship between our companies through safe and successful dockings of their fleet,” said Díaz. “We appreciate the trust bestowed upon us over the past 14 years by such a key leader of the cruise ship industry.”

Currently, the Allure of the Seas is undergoing a significant revitalisation at Navantia’s Cádiz yard – its third visit since 2015.
