Palumbo Malta Shipyard begins 2024 with a bang

Valletta-based Palumbo Malta Shipyard has had a bust start to the New Year (Source: Palumbo Group)

One of the Mediterranean’s leading ship repair yards is the Palumbo Malta Shipyard of Italian headquartered Palumbo Group. Based in the capital, Valletta, this yard had five vessels undergoing repair on 17 January:

  • Lady Rina – 39,310dwt 2012-built chemical tanker, owned by Sweden’s Gotland Rederi, Visby and managed by V.Ships UK, Glasgow
  • Santa Maria – 4,501dwt 1977-built product tanker, owned by Malta’s SL Shipmanagement, Marsa
  • GNV Sealand – 26,904gt 2009-built ropax ferry, owned by Italy’s Grandi Navi Veloci
  • Saint John Paul II – 110m Incat Wave-Piercing Catamaran ferry built-2019, owned by Valletta-based Virtu Ferries and operates on a regular service between Malta and Italy
  • Malita – 486gt 2002-built passenger roro, owned by Malta’s Gozo Channel Line
