One of the Arabian Gulf’s leading ship repairers, Qatar Shipyard Technology Solutions, has received ABS approval for its range of ship repair and retrofit work processes for remote survey.

As part of a pioneering joint development programme, ABS tested, validated and approved remote survey technologies at the Ras Laffan shipyard for a number of survey tasks, including rudder clearance inspection, stern tube wear down inspection and rudder plug opening inspection.

It is the culmination of the joint development project which explored how techniques developed by ABS for its programme of remote surveys of vessels can optimise scheduling and minimise downtime for the shipyard, vessels and ABS surveyors.

The framework established in these activities will serve as the foundation for expanded projects.

Meanwhile, vessels undergoing repair at Qatar Shipyard on June 11th included the following:

  • Fog 12 – 3,005dwt 2016-built OSV, owned by local-based owner First Oil & Gas Services, Doha
  • Doha – 134,517m3 capacity 1999-built LNG carrier, owned by Japan’s NYK LNG Shipmanagement, Tokyo
  • Al Kharaitiyat – 216,300m3 capacity 2009-built LNG carrier, owned by Qatar’s Nakilat. Vessel is one of the Q-class vessels
  • Al Bhashaymiya – 213,239m3 capacity 2009-built LNG carriers, owned by Qatar’s Nakilat and operated by Shell International Shipping & Trading
