Saga cruise vessel calls in at Falmouth for refit
Operated by A&P Limited, the shipyard will clean and repaint the vessel’s hull and service stabilisers, anchors, cables and bow thrusters. The yard will also upgrade the ship’s Wi-Fi system, providing passengers with better connectivity, and the vessel’s interior will be upgraded and modernised with new lighting, carpets, and signage.
The yard will also inspect the vessel’s propulsion system, which comprises two Siemens SISHIP SiPod azimuthing pods. Powered by four 9-cylinder 32/44 common rail MAN engines, the 58,250GT Spirit of Adventure and its sistership Spirit of Discovery are unusually small and technologically specialised, aimed at a high-end luxury cruising for over-50s. Designed to carry just 999 passengers, it was launched from Germany’s Meyer Werft shipyard in 2020, after a delay of several months brought on by the Covid-19 pandemic.
The vessel features a scrubber system and uses a centralised water system for waste heat utilisation.
"We look forward to showcasing our skills and working in partnership with Saga to prepare the cruise ship for her next adventure", said the A&P Group in a statement.
The operations will together require some 500 workers.
