Sea-Cargo AS has bought two 2007-built RoRo vessels, Misida and Misana, from Godby Shipping Ab, and is set to remodel them this summer, along with giving them new names: Trans Hav and Trans Sol.
The modifications will include three new rotor sails each, from Norsepower, the first company to release a commercially available rotor sail.
New propellers, optimised for 14 knots, will be fabricated and installed by Kongsberg; a new weather deck, increasing covered deck capacity and establishing space for around 1,600m2 of solar panels; and new battery systems from Norwegian Energy Systems (NES) will also be fitted.
Wärtsilä will provide new bridge equipment as well as machinery and control systems, while Smart Automation will integrate the various power sources and battery systems for optimal energy efficiency. Together, Sea-Cargo expects that a 50% reduction in CO2 emissions will be achievable with each of the vessels.
