Germany’s Strela Shiprepair, based in the Baltic port of Stralsund, is set for another successful year in 2024, having repaired a total of 23 vessels in the first six months of this year. The latest successfully completed job was the dry-docking and intermediate class survey of the 4,12dwt 2009-built chemical tanker Brahms, owned by Hamburg’s GEFO.

Strela Shiprepair operates from its own site within the Volkswerft Maritime and Industrial Park in Stralsund, with Brahms arriving at the yard’s Syncrolift and shiplift transfer system for repairs at the end of May.

The scope of work on the tanker was extensive, and the owners wanted the work carried out as quickly as possible. Specifically, the work carried out included the overhaul of all sea valves, and the rudder and propeller systems were measured and checked. The programme also included checking, repairing, and overhauling the various pumps and tank lines, checking and cleaning the sea and anchor boxes, as well as the anchor chain.

Finally, Brahms received a new hull coating scheme along with its first ever Ballast Water Treatment System (BWTS).

“In the end, there was more work than originally planned within the short timeframe, but we met the deadline in full,” said Patrick Micklel, Yard Operations Manager.
