Two major Greek ferry upgrade and refit projects have recently been completed in the Perama Repair Zone, near the port of Piraeus, with a third project about to start.

On May 24th, the RoPax ferry SuperFast III (ex Olympic Champion) arrived in the Greek port of Patras and has now joined her two fleet mates, SuperFast IV and Hellenic Spirit, on SuperFast Ferries’ service linking Patras-Igoumenitsa-Ancon. The 32,694gt 2000-built SuperFast III has just completed a major upgrade project for its new owners.

The second ferry to leave Perama after completing major work was the high-speed craft HSC Morocco Express I (ex Highspeed 3 and Boraq). This fast ferry sailed from Greece on May 24th to join Africa Morocco Link’s (AML) service between Tarifa and Tangiers Ville on May 31st. HSC Morocco Express I is a 2000-built 72m Austal AutoExpress, acquired by AML from Minoan Flying Dolphins Maritime.

AML is a joint venture between Greece’s Attica Group and Morocco’s BEMC Bank of America.

Meanwhile, travelling in the other direction was the 19,413gt 1986-built RoPax ferry Med Star (ex Västervik) which arrived at the port of Piraeus at the end of May under tow from Gibraltar.

Acquired at auction from bankrupt Moroccan ferry operator Interferry by Italian ferry operator StarLines, which operates services between Italy and Albania, Med Star is currently alongside at Neos Molos (Drapetsona) awaiting the start of its major upgrade project.
