US commercial and naval ship repairer BAE Systems Norfolk Shiprepair Yard, located in Virginia, has secured a contract valued in excess of USD 87 million for the year-long drydocking and repair of the US Navy’s Landing Ship Dock (LSD) USS Carter Hall (LSD 50), which is homeported in Norfolk. Work on the nearly 30-year-old vessel will start in July, with the scope of work including a combination of maintenance and preservation work on the ship’s hull, its internal fuel and ballast tanks and the machinery plant. Work on USS Carter Hall is expected to be completed by May 2025.

The USD 87.3 million firm fixed price contract includes options that, if exercised, could take the cumulative value of the contract up to USD 92.4 million.

The Harper Ferry-class LSD USS Carter Hall recently returned to Norfolk after an eight-month overseas deployment, which included patrols on the Red Sea as part of the US’ response to the ongoing war between Israel and Hamas, as well as the continued attacks on commercial shipping by Yemen’s Houthi.
