UW Group strengthens management team

UW Group has boosted its executive team with the hiring of Vassilios Demetriades as its chief strategy officer. The Cyrus-based group, with subsidiary offices in Greece, Russia, Singapore, and the United Arab Emirates, provides a broad range of shipping services through its companies, Umar Shipping Services and WSR Services. The companies, well-known for their expertise in ship repairs across the world, work with partner yards in key locations, offering routine vessel repairs, underwater services, riding gangs, repair stations, coatings systems and engine monitoring and upgrades.
Demetriades has a wealth of experience in shipping policy both at national and international levels. He has held a range of positions including Head of EU Affairs at the Cypriot Ministry of Transport, Communications and Works; Policy Officer in the Directorate General of Mobility and Transport at the European Commission; and Shipping Deputy Minister to the President of the Republic of Cyprus. His knowledge and expertise will be beneficial to the UW Group as international shipping faces a tightening and increasingly complex global and regulatory framework.
Group CEO, Thrasos Tsangarides, expressed his pleasure at the addition to the company’s management team, commenting that Demetriades will add value to the development and execution of the company’s strategic planning and future development.
