Technology group Wärtsilä has been selected to supply replacement engines for two inland waterway pusher tugs operating in Paraguay. The vessels, owned by ADM Naviera Chaco (ADM), will undergo modifications and engine installations in Asunción, Paraguay.

ADM aims to cut emissions by 25% by 2035, with Wärtsilä’s advanced engine technology playing a key role in achieving this goal. The refit will improve efficiency, reduce environmental impact, and enhance operational reliability.

“The Wärtsilä engines selected for this project have the fuel flexibility that we seek, especially as we look to the potential of alternative future fuels,” said Raul Valdez, Logistic director at ADM Naviera Chaco. “At the same time, the project will help us to improve operational reliability and lower our maintenance costs.”

The vessels, Decatur Lady and Tendota, will each be fitted with three Wärtsilä 20 engines, known for their compact design, fuel efficiency, and reliability. The engines were delivered to the shipyard earlier this year.

“This important project… highlights the marine industry’s shift to greater sustainability and increased efficiency,” said Hanno Schoonman, Wärtsilä Marine’s sales director for the AMER region.

ADM operates a vast logistics network, including 2,500 barges and over 160 boats, supporting its global role in sustainable transportation solutions.
